The 41st annual Ed Block Courage Award Foundation Gala was held over the weekend in Baltimore, Maryland. One player from each NFL team is invited, who is voted on by their teammates for their courage and inspiration throughout their season. Some past Falcons winners are LaRoy Reynolds (2017) and Adrian Clayborn (2016).
The Atlanta Falcons voted defensive tackle Jack Crawford as the 2018 recipient of the award. During his stay over the weekend, Jack participated in community outreaches with local at-risk youth and abused children. These events help inspire their peers to give back to their local communities, but more important they inspire the youth affected by such tragedies as abuse.
Jack Crawford has continued to exemplify commitments to the principles of sportsmanship and courage, displaying how a professional athlete should handle himself off the field, and in his community. On Saturday evening Jack received his award at the Gala event saying:
“I’m honored to receive the 2018 Ed Block Courage award for the Atlanta Falcons. The best part of getting nominated was being voted in by my peers. Thanks to all those who helped me get back on the field in 2018, and thanks to the Ed Block Foundation for all they do in the community.”
Coming off his best NFL season in 2018, Jack Crawford finished the season with career highs in sacks with six, tackles with 35, and the first interception of his career. His story is a unique one, as he was born and raised in London, England where he played soccer. His goal was to come over to the United States, play basketball, and hopefully make it to the NBA. He ended up attending a football camp, receiving a scholarship and playing football at Penn State University, and the rest is history. He’s an extraordinary person, who is a beast on the field, but a kind-hearted individual off it. Jack’s a perfect example of what the Atlanta Falcons are about, and I’m proud to call him my friend.
